It hasn’t snowed Since Monday, but Monday was very cold! We have officially started listening to Christmas music! I love the Christmas season, and I am excited to be a missionary during Christmas time! Also check out the new Christmas video at christmas.mormon.org #ASaviorIsBorn It’s pretty cool!
We had our usually District Meeting! We talked a lot about the spirit and our own conversion to the gospel! Did I mention how much I love Missionary meeting? I do think they are pretty great!
We helped a member weed her garden before the snow comes, we’ve been trying to help her for the past couple weeks, but every time we went over there it was raining! Finally we were able to help her! It went by really fast with all three of us weeding! Then we had yummy soup for dinner!
We had a great Thanksgiving!
We stopped at a few members homes. We gave each of them a note of gratitude, because we are both grateful for all the members in this ward! We had dinner at the Guthrie’s It was a good traditional Thanksgiving dinner! We also stopped by the Drake’s and the Talley’s. It was a fun day!
We had some good lessons this week!
A few weeks ago on exchange, we met a guy while tracting, the other day we had a lesson with him. He said that the first vision sounded familiar to him. It was cool because we talked about the light of Christ at District Meeting and how everyone is born with it. That is why he thought it sounded familiar! We set him with a baptism date, so we will see where that goes!
We had a lesson with some of our recent converts, they have 5 children all under the age of 5! Sometimes it’s hard to teach them because their children are crazy (But super cute!) Just as we were leaving, The mom asked their four year old what she wanted for dinner, she exclaimed, “Dinosaurs!” Well I don’t know how that’s going to work, but it was super cute and funny!
It’s getting pretty cold here!
Sometimes the weather likes tricking us, on Friday we were walking around without coats on! It was so warm it was crazy! Then this morning, we woke up to a thick layer of ice on our car. Eventually it will just be cold! Sharing the gospel makes walking in the cold worth it!
We had Thanksgiving again with a family in the ward, We had the usual turkey, stuffing, I decided to try eating stuffing this year! I don’t really like it, but most of it was actually good! taste buds change on your mission 😉 We also had leftover thanksgiving dinner at the Drake’s on Sunday! Thanksgiving leftovers are the best!
We had two investigators at church this Sunday!
Sister Hale and I were ecstatic! One was a newer investigator. His girlfriend is a member, but he is investigating now! The other one is someone we see pretty often, she has been to church a few times now!
We had ZTM this week! I love missionary meetings! They usually make me want to be a better missionary and work harder!
We went on exchange this week! Sister Williams came here to Vestal with me! There were a lot of Miracles, that’s generally what happens on exchange.
When we got to our apartment, we made some goals, I decided that I wanted to give out a Book of Mormon before we came in for dinner, mind you we only had a few hours before dinner, but I was hopeful that I would reach my goal! So we went out. There were a ton of people on the streets, more than normal! It was amazing! We met so many wonderful people and we even taught the first lesson right there on the street for a few of them! I gave my Book of Mormon to one of them. Another one we taught seemed really interested, he said the message we shared was inspiring and hopeful! It’s amazing how people can start to feel the spirit in their life in such a short time! He looked a lot happier when we left that when we first met him!
We had a quick dinner and we were back on the street! We tracted a road, it was dark and I was a little scared to knock on doors at night, but we did it anyway! We didn’t have a whole lot of success until the very last house! We a man who seemed really interested and told us we could come back later! We also found a lot of people as we tracted part of our apartment building! The people we met seemed so prepared! One even made an appointment with us later in the week! When we went back he seemed really interested!
Sister William and I. We had a birthday party! We both have the same birthday!
The next day, Sister Gass texted us that Sister Hale wasn’t feeling very well and was in bed resting. So when we were finished with our exchange, a member of our ward drove us all the way to Elmira! They are the nicest people ever! they gave us water and chocolate for our journey to Elmira and they stopped at Wendy’s on the way back for dinner! And gave Sister Hale some things to help her feel better! They are the best!
Before Sister Williams left Vestal, we had a great lesson with one of our investigators, she had been coming to church a few times. She almost committed to be baptized! Later that week she called us and told us that she didn’t want to meet with us again! It was scary! However, she agreed to have us come over later this week and talk things over! 🙂
On Thursday I turned 20!
It was a great day! I got lots of presents and cards from my family! (Also Sister Gass gave me a birthday card!) I loved everything that I got! Thank you for sending so much love! It made my day!
For lunch Sister Hale and I made pizza! It was a lot of fun! (We also got to wear our new aprons from my dad! 🙂 Later that day, we went to the Guthrie’s house so that I could have a picture with the birthday hat! They also made me a cake in a mug! Then we had dinner with the Drake’s! Sister Drake made stroganoff, my favorite! It was pretty good! We had pink and green cupcakes and I opened some more presents!
The next day, Sister Donohoe, took us out to TGI Fridays for lunch in celebration of my birthday! It was very sweet of her! Later that day for dinner we went to Texas road house with another member of the ward. I guess everyone wanted to celebrate my birthday! 😉 I am grateful for everyone in the ward! 🙂
Friday’s with Sister Donohoe and Sister Mcdaniel! So much fun!
On Saturday we made cookies for one of our investigator’s and left it on her door because she was at work. It’s fun to do little services for people! 🙂
We had a really great lesson with one of our newer investigators, she really seems interested in learning more. She saw the example of one of the members in the ward, and that sparked her interest! Hopefully she will come to church soon!
On Sunday night we were out tracting and finding people, when all of a sudden there was a cat by us! So Sister Hale befriended it, it was rather cute! It followed us for a long time and we thought it would follow us all the way to our car but eventually it disappeared! Sister Hale thought it was like a “spirit cat”…
We had our first snow this morning! I was sitting at my desk and I saw something through the blinds of my window! I open the blinds and I was snow! It so pretty! 🙂 Winter is definitely on it’s way!
My List of Thanksgiving:
I am grateful to have two wonderful parents that have taught me the gospel my whole life! It’s because of them that I am on a mission! I am grateful for the example of my dad going on a mission, it had inspired me to go on a mission as well! I am also grateful for the example of my mom, I would always see her saying her nightly prayers every night, she has also influenced me to going on a mission. I am also grateful for my grandparents in teaching my parents the gospel as well! They have been a tremendous influence on me also! 🙂
I am grateful for the friend that I have had through out my life! They have been good examples to me of love and friendship! I am especially grateful for the friends I had in high school and the fact that they had high standards! Their influence has also inspired me!
I am so very grateful the be in the New York Utica Mission! I am grateful for the companions that I have had and the things that I have learned from each one of them! I am grateful for my mission president and his wife! They are wonderful people and I am grateful for their example and dedication. I am grateful for the opportunity I have to be a missionary and to preach the gospel in upstate New York. I love the people here and I don’t regret my decision to be a missionary! 🙂
I am grateful for temples, and although I have not been able to go to a temple in months, I am so grateful for the spirit that is there and I am excited to go to the temple frequently! I am also grateful for the scriptures and the peace and knowledge that they give me! I am grateful that the true church was restored and that we have a living prophet on the earth today.
I am grateful for the gospel and that we can return to live with God, Jesus Christ and our families again! I am grateful for the Atonement of Jesus Christ, and His sacrifice that was for each and every one of us! I am grateful for the plan that our Heavenly Father made for us! I am grateful for the happiness that I have felt from this gospel.
We had enrichment on Tuesday night, we made pumpkin pies, they were really good! I’m not the biggest pumpkin pie fan but this pumpkin pie was very good!! We also made snowflakes out of paper, they looked nice, and sparkly!
We were walking around a different part of our area. As we walked we saw a young mother out for a walk with her dog and her little toddler. We started talking to her and she seemed really nice and open, hopefully we will be able to go back and talk with her whole family!
We did you usual service, cleaning another church in the area, We had a lesson with one of the less actives, she served us hot chocolate because it was a bit cold outside. This time she didn’t bring the birds out!
We had a really great lesson with one of our investigators, (she almost wanted to stop seeing us last week!) She asked a lot of good questions, she is a little bit more open to us, and she was excited to come to church!
We had dinner with a couple members of the ward at a church in Binghamton, they served Chicken and Biscuits, it seemed to be a New York thing to have because I never had it until I got to New York! It was a really good dinner.
After dinner we had a lesson planned with a potential investigator. Well the members that drove us to dinner, wanted to come with us so we headed to the lesson, on the way, she texted us and said that she wouldn’t be able to meet that night, so we decided to see one of out referrals that lives far away. You have probably heard me talk about them before because we have been trying them for the past couple of months but they have never been home! We’ve tried day time, night time, morning, evening, almost every time of the day!! However, this time there was a car in front of their house!! We knocked on the door they answered, we gave them the bible the ordered and they want us to come back!! It was really great!
One of the less active members of the ward’s son passed away, we wanted to support her, so we went to the funeral on Saturday. It was very interesting, there was a lot of Amens and random singing! Well, I guess that’s part of the culture of Binghamton! It’s great! It was a really great service! I’m glad that we were able to be there for support 🙂
After the Funeral, we helped a member of the ward clean her house, she hasn’t been feeling too good lately, so we helped her clean her kitchen and bathroom! She also gave us cupcakes that were really good!
Then we headed off to a baptism!
A women that on the the Elders were teaching got baptized. She had been coming to church with a member for a couple of months now. She new so much about the scriptures and church that everyone assumed that she was already a member! Well, as soon as we figured out that she wasn’t a member, they taught her lesson, and she was baptized! She is such a nice women!
Like I said earlier, one of our investigators came to church! It was really cool because she was able to see a confirmation! She loves the lessons and she loves the songs even if she doesn’t know them!
For a change…
We had dinner with the Kings on Sunday! They are a really nice family, the boys are a little crazy, but boys will be boys right? 😉 Sister King also teaches Relief Society sometimes and her lessons are always the best!! This week it was all about missionary work! I love missionary work!! It’s the best!
We had a little bit of time left so we still stopped by the Drake’s. We just wanted to share a scripture with them that would help them. In return, Sister Drake gave us brownies! 🙂
I can say that I was never hungry this week!
Everyone gave us food this week! We went to another investigators house, just as we were about to leave, she offered us some cake that she made. It was a really good chocolate cake! Another time, one of the recent converts gave us cake that she bought for her son’s birthday. It was pumpkin cake, I just love pumpkin so much! We got food at the funeral and all of the other times we got food that I mentioned in this email. Everyone is so nice here! I just love it here so much!
This week we are going to go on exchanges!
This time Sister Williams is coming to Vestal. Something cool about Sister William’s is that she shares the same birthday as me! So cool!!
I hope that you all have a wonderful week! New York is pretty great! No snow yet..not sure if I’m sad or glad about that! 🙂
For the first few days this week, we had really great weather! It was in the 60s and 70s!! Crazy for November in New York, however yesterday it was freezing and we had to scrape frost off our car this morning…
On Tuesday we had district meeting as always, we talked about goal setting. It was a good meeting, that’s about it.
The members in the Binghamton Ward are amazing!
There are three experiences this week that we had with members.
On Friday, one of our investigators almost dropped us! However we had a member with us who persisted that our investigator comes to church. We were pretty persisted also, however, I think she would have dropped us had we not had a member with us being lovingly persisted!
Later on Friday, a member gave us a ride to a referral that lives far away (We have to stay within a mile budget). The referral wasn’t home so we got in the car to leave. A few seconds later the member who drove us noticed a sign in the window of a neighboring house, it said “Thankful for families” She stopped the car and we knocked on the door. There was a young mother home, and she let us in! We taught her the first lesson and she wants us to come back and come to church! Sister Hale and I didn’t even notice the sign! Again, I am so grateful for the members here! 🙂
We were going to have a lesson with an investigator and we were going to take a member with us. Well the appointment canceled. When we called the member to tell her that the appointment canceled, she asked us if we still see our recent convert. We said yes we are seeing her the next day (Saturday). She invited her self to come. We were uncertain if we should bring her because she has trouble walking up stairs and our recent convert lives up 4 or 5 flights of stairs, but she insisted that she came with us! She said she would make it up the stairs with the Lords help! She is truly an amazing women! Not only did she make it up the stairs she also shared an amazing testimony and befriended our recent convert, offering her a ride to church. I am so grateful for the members and the support they give to everyone!
All in all the members here are great!
On Wednesday night
We were walking around trying to talk with people, not a lot of PEOPLE were out but we did see a bunch of deer running across the rode in a neighborhood, for some reason it was really funny. We just turned the corner and here are all these deer running across the street! We laughed!
We had a lesson with a less active member. This time we saw her birds! They were really funny birds, one of them hid from Sister Hales camera and one of them laughed, it was a really funny laugh too! It was fun to see them!
This week we had dinner with the Guthrie’s, Hogan’s, and Drake’s. As always, everything was good! On Sunday, I was matching with Sister Drake that was kind of fun!
We also had transfer calls this week!
Sister Hale and I are staying in Binghamton together! for at least another transfer! I really love it here and I am grateful that I am staying! 🙂
In the morning we saw an older member of the ward! She has such a strong faith in the gospel! As we left, one of our investigators texted us and told us that she wants to get baptized! It’s in a few months but it was still super cool!! We are excited for her!! 🙂
We had a really great district meeting about being more bold with the people! We did a cool role play where we all stood in a line and OYMed each other all at the same time! It was kind of crazy, however, it was a good way to practice teaching boldly by the spirit! 🙂
After District Meeting
We had a really good lesson with another investigator! There is so much potential in this area! Our investigators are starting to progress and we are excited for what is going to happen!
On Tuesday night
We tried to contact people on the streets. Since it’s getting cold out, not a lot of people are on the streets at night. However, as we walked, we saw a guy coming out of his house to check if his truck was locked. There’s our chance! We told him that we were missionaries and a little about what we believe. He said he wasn’t interest, however, he also told us that his girlfriend might be! so he took us into the house where we met his girlfriend. We taught both of them a few things and we gave them a Book of Mormon, they said we could come back if we are in the area! We are excited to go back and teach them some more! Had we not been walking at that exact time, and had the courage to talk to that man, we would have never met them! I am so grateful for the strength of the Lord (As it talks about in the Book of Mormon) and the Spirit! I would not be able to be out here without either of them! It was truly a miracle!
We helped a member clean her house and then we had dinner with her! The members in the Ward are really great! I am still really grateful to be in this area! 🙂
A lot of our appointments canceled 🙁 However we had a great lesson with one of the less active members of the ward about the Plan of Salvation! We could feel the spirit so strongly!! I really love feeling the spirit all the time!!
We have also found a street, where a lot of people are out! I love sharing the gospel, even though people reject us. It’s really sad when they do reject us, but it would be even more sad if they never got a chance to hear the gospel!
Friday was the Ward Trunk or Treat Halloween party!
We invited a few investigators but none of them came 🙁 but it was still super fun! There were a lot of people there and a lot of trunks with candy!
Saturday (aka Halloween 😉
Was the adult session of Stake Conference! It was a really good meeting! Some members from our ward spoke, both on Saturday and Sunday! Elder Smith from the Seventy came and spoke both days! The spirit was really strong and there were lots of great stories!
After Stake Conference on Saturday, a member took us out to dinner! We went to a good Italian restaurant that had grilled pizzas. Never had one of those before but it was really good! 🙂
I thoroughly enjoyed my extra hour of sleep and I hope you did to! 😉
