Another week in the mission field! With Sister Hale in a town called Vestal in New York!
As a missionary we spend a lot of our time trying to find people to teach. Whether it’s by knocking on doors, talking to people on the street, talking to people, or while your companion fills up the car at the gas station (It’s happened before!) Anyway, we are always finding people! This week was one of “those” weeks… well we found a lot of people, but no one really seemed to be interested! There are some days that I get discouraged and I feel like I’m at wits end! But every time I want to give up, a scripture pops into my head. The one that I think of the most is Ether 12:6 it says
“And now, I, Moroni, would speak somewhat concerning these things; I would show unto the world that faith is things which are hoped for and not seen; wherefore, dispute not because ye see not, for ye receive no witness until after the trial of your faith.”
And I just remember, that I have to keep going! I may not find a lot of people who are interested, but I can hope that the next person I talk needs the gospel and Jesus Christ in their lives!
So It may sound like I had a pretty terrible week! However, I never have a terrible week! I find joy in sharing the gospel with others. Yes I might get sad when people don’t want to hear our message, however, I don’t get discouraged! Because I know that there is someone out there who is praying and needing the gospel in their lives whether they know it or not!
I find a lot of strength from the Book of Mormon! I like the first chapter in the book of Mormon when Nephi talks about “the tender mercies of the Lord”. Jerusalem is about to be destroyed, people are rejecting the gospel, Nephi’s father, Lehi, had death threats against him, and through all this, Nephi still talks about tender mercies, so we can always find joy in what we do even if everything seems to be falling down around us! I am so grateful for the Book of Mormon! It would be hard to be a missionary without it!
Speaking of the Book of Mormon, that was the theme of our Zone Conference this week! I just love the Book of Mormon! Since I have been studying the book of Mormon on my mission, I have come to love it even more, and my testimony of the Book of Mormon and Jesus Christ have been strengthened! I am so very grateful for it in my life, it has given me peace and comfort. And I am grateful for the opportunity that I have to share it with others! 🙂
Other things that happened this week!
There was a Christmas Tree lighting ceremony. It was a tender mercy because we just so happened to have a lesson near where the ceremony was being held! Sadly the lesson fell through 🙁 however as we walked down the street we saw the Christmas tree all lit up! 🙂 It was very pretty! It’s so big that you can see it miles down the street!
We watched part of the Christmas Devotional, it was very nice! I loved the pretty trees and the talks that we saw (Elder Bednar and President Uchtdorf) They were both very good talks! I am so excited for Christmas!! It’s so close!
An investigator came to church on Sunday! She came 3 Sundays in a row! She has had a rough time the last couple of Sundays she come, however, she still comes! Sunday was also my temple year mark and my baptism 12 year mark! I am also giving a talk next Sunday! 🙂
Weather update: There is still no snow, it’s been in the 40’s this past week and it rained. I guess it’s suppose to be a warm December.
We have a Christmas Party next week! I’m so excited for it! We also get transfer calls on Saturday, the transfer ends a week early this time because of Christmas! 🙂
Loves yas all yas!
Have a great week!
